A five-year-old boy was admitted three times to an intensive care unit in Valladolid, Spain, due to cannabis consumption. According to a study by the Río Hortega University Hospital and the University of Valladolid, which analyses the accidental consumption of drugs, tobacco and alcohol in children, the child was "hypersensitive to cannabis" and his parents were both users.

Quoted by the local newspaper El Norte de Castilla, those responsible explained that the boy had had active and passive exposure to cannabis, which led to his being admitted at least three times with symptoms such as itching, urticaria, vomiting and hypotension.

In one of the admissions, the child had previously consumed peanuts, which led to the suspicion that it could be an allergy to the nut. However, it was found that the child had already been in hospital several times for respiratory, digestive and skin problems.

During a check of the family history, it was discovered that the parents were both cannabis users and the child was transferred to the Department of Allergology, where he tested positive for a mixture of grasses, nuts and other foods and it was found that he was hypersensitive to cannabis.

In addition to being exposed to the smoke of the narcotic, the boy also consumed cannabis cakes and returned to the hospital emergency room several times with respiratory problems.

According to El Norte de Castilla, the social services of Valladolid were alerted to the case.
