Dingo the dog entered the San Antonio Benagéber animal shelter, in the Spanish region of Valencia, and spent 11 of his 17 years there. Now, he has (finally) been adopted.

According to Spanish broadcaster Telecinco, he was the kennel's oldest dog and no one knows for sure what his story is or how he ended up in the shelter, as none of the current volunteers worked there at the time.

They suspect that he spent his early years alone and that this has affected his character. "At first he was aggressive and refused all contact," explained Sara, a volunteer with the Valencian Society for the Protection of Animals and Plants, who described Dingo as "a difficult dog" who "doesn't like interacting with people or other animals".

However, "over time he has changed and become more sociable" and has now managed to find an adoptive family "willing to give him all the time he needs".

The adoption was possible thanks to a social media campaign. "A new month of struggle and hope begins," the shelter wrote in a Facebook post, in which they explained that they were looking "for a home with patience and a plot of land" in or around Valencia because the animal deserved to have all his "needs respected and met".

On 12 April, the association announced that "a family has appeared willing to give him the time he needs to give him the opportunity" that the animal "needs so much".
