A dog that went missing for 17 days in Australia has been reunited with his owners in the UK.

Jason Whatnall and Nick Rowlands were travelling back to Jason's native Australia with their Jack Russell Terrier Milo when he bolted from their grasp at Melbourne Airport as they prepared to board their flight home to Swansea, Sky News reports.

The five-year-old pooch spent 17 days on the loose in the suburbs of Melbourne before he was finally found and reunited with his owners in an emotional moment that left the family in tears.

"It was just fantastic to have Milo back. He was screaming with joy, he was so excited. And I cried, we all cried, it was so emotional," Jason said.

Jason and Nick had endured an anxious wait for news of Milo's whereabouts while they were on the other side of the world, but their luck changed after they put out an appeal on social media.

"For 12 days we had no confirmed sightings. We didn't know where he was. It was pretty grim, we were losing hope a little bit," he added, revealing that sightings then started coming in and he was eventually located.

"We ended up identifying where he was, they set a trap and within 48 hours they had him. It was a crazy ordeal, I couldn't have done it without the community, the volunteers and basically everyone who helped," Jason added.
