At least 5 migrants (including a child) die in the Channel
At least five migrants, including a child, died trying to cross the Channel on Monday night off the beach at Wimereux in northern France, a police source said.

The same source told the newspaper Voix du Nord that it had no further information at this stage on the circumstances of the deaths in the channel that links Britain to France.
On 3 March, a seven-year-old girl travelling in a small boat with 15 other migrants drowned in the Aa canal, a small river in northern France.
Twelve migrants have lost their lives in 2023 while attempting to cross the English Channel.
In that year, 29,437 migrants arrived illegally on the English coast, compared to 45,774 in 2022, a record year, according to data from the British Home Office.
The British Parliament approved this morning the bill that allows asylum seekers who have entered the United Kingdom illegally to be deported to Rwanda.
