A man was brutally assaulted in the early hours of Monday in Fisterra, in the Spanish region of Galicia, after he stopped his car at what he thought was a Guardia Civil checkpoint.
According to the Spanish press, the victim, a 35-year-old man, was attacked as he was driving to work and saw a car that allegedly had lights on its roof “like those used in patrol cars”.
Two individuals emerged from the vehicle, who appeared to have identification badges, and then beat the man with “sticks and baseball bats”, according to La Voz de Galicia.
The victim was attacked “mercilessly”, but managed to escape from his attackers, who stole his car. The vehicle was later found abandoned, “with damage to a seat caused by an arson attack”.
The incident is being investigated, but it is suspected that it was a settling of scores related to drug trafficking.
