The 133 people have already been released, according to New York police, who were called by the university administration to remove the demonstrators from the property of the higher education institution.
"If they refuse to leave, we ask the New York Police Department to take appropriate enforcement action, including arrest," according to a letter sent by the university administration to the authorities, quoted by international agencies.
Several American universities have been agitated in recent days due to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, with students organizing demonstrations and other protest actions to demand an end to the war in the Palestinian enclave, which is facing a humanitarian catastrophe.
About a hundred pro-Palestinian students had already been arrested last week at Columbia University, also in New York, after the management of the educational institution had also requested the intervention of the police.
Several personalities, including American congressmen, have accused these pro-Palestinian demonstrations of fueling anti-Semitism in the country, which has worried the White House (presidency of the United States).
"In recent days, we have witnessed harassment and calls for violence against Jews," said the American President, Joe Biden, in a statement released on Sunday, on the eve of the Jewish Passover.
"This blatant anti-Semitism is reprehensible and dangerous, and it has absolutely no place in universities, or anywhere in our country," the governor said in the same note.
