"The F16 Falcons carried out a bombing against one of the shelters of ISIS terrorists in the Hamrin mountain range", located in northern Iraq, at 08:10 [05:10 in Lisbon), which caused the death of two "very dangerous leaders", highlighted the Joint Operations Command of Iraq, in a statement, without detailing names or positions.
In the operation, the forces found a large number of weapons, ammunition and equipment belonging to members of the 'jihadist' group in the hideout.
The attack was carried out after the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate developed a tracking device to obtain accurate information, in cooperation and coordination with the Joint Operations Command, the note also reads.
At the end of March, the Iraqi Army had announced an operation on the border with Syria, in which it killed a prominent leader of the Islamic State identified as Samir al Nimrawi, an Iraqi citizen "responsible for the transfer and delivery of terrorists, weapons and explosives between Iraq and Syria".
ISIS [Islamic State] was territorially defeated in Iraq in 2017, after having controlled large areas of the country since 2014, but its 'sleeper cells' continue to carry out attacks, especially against Iraqi security forces and particularly on the border with Syria and in the north and center of the country.
