Russia calls for cooperation to investigate causes of Nord Stream explosion
Russia on Thursday called for cooperation from the international community to uncover the “real circumstances” of the 2022 explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines, accusing the West of “delaying investigations” and trying to sweep the issue under the rug.

At a United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting convened by Moscow to address the explosions on the Russian Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, Russia's permanent representative, Vasily Nebenzya, accused "Western colleagues" of trying to do everything so that the international community "will forget about this terrorist attack."

"Be that as it may, we would like to emphasize once again: the Russian Federation and other constructively-minded states will not allow this topic to be hushed up," Nebenzya assured.
"Given that Denmark and Sweden have already formally admitted their own impotence, and Germany is not telling anyone about the progress of the investigation - if it is being conducted at all - then it should already be obvious to everyone that the true circumstances of what happened can only be established through the cooperation of the international community," he added.
In February this year, Danish and Swedish authorities announced the closure of their respective investigations, citing a lack of legal basis to open a criminal case and a lack of jurisdiction, respectively, without identifying those responsible for what they concluded was "deliberate sabotage" of the infrastructure.
Nebenzya criticized the lack of closure and justice today, despite the findings that the pipelines were deliberately destroyed by explosive devices.
"That is, there is a crime, but no one is going to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. It is as if during a murder investigation, a year later, the investigation came to the conclusion that the victim was killed. A scenario that looks more like an absurd play," he assessed.
"I want to assure you that no matter how hard the perpetrators try, they will not escape the answer. Our country will continue to use all the tools at its disposal for these purposes. We call on all sane states that have nothing to do with the terrorist attack on Nord Stream to support these efforts," he urged.
During the meeting, UN Under-Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, Miroslav Jenca, stressed that the United Nations does not have any additional details on the events in question and "is not in a position to verify or confirm claims or reports made" about the incident.
While several member states rejected speculation ahead of the conclusion of all ongoing investigations, they also urged Germany to immediately share the results of its investigation with the Security Council once it is complete.
Countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States have criticized Russia for consistently calling Security Council meetings on the issue, while it continues to deliberately and systematically target critical infrastructure in Ukraine in its attacks.
The explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines, which were not in operation at the time of the incident, occurred on September 26, 2022, and caused two leaks in each of them: two in the Danish zone and two in the Swedish zone, all in international waters.
Last year, the Security Council rejected a Russian proposal to launch an international investigation into the explosions, with most members advocating the continuation of investigations led by Germany, Denmark and Sweden.
Although Russia has insisted that it was sabotage by "Anglo-Saxon" countries, the international community has closed ranks on the issue and accused the Kremlin (Russian presidency) of carrying out a "false flag" attack (staging an attack and blaming it on others).
