US President Joe Biden has taken a series of swipes at his presidential election rival Donald Trump, describing him as a "six-year-old". In the speech, he also made a point of highlighting the former president's falling out with his vice president Mike Pence and referenced the Stormy Daniels case.

"The 2024 election is afoot and, yes, age is an issue," he began, during the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner on Saturday night. "I’m a grown man running against a child," the 81-year-old president quipped.

Biden then referenced Trump's falling out with Mike Pence, which intensified following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. The former US vice president has since challenged Trump in the Republican primaries and recently said he will not endorse him in November's presidential election.

"Age is the only thing we have in common. My vice president actually supports me," Biden said, as his vice president Kamala Harris, who was seated near the stage, laughed and applauded, according to The Guardian.

He went on to reference Trump's ongoing trial in New York, where he is accused of paying porn star Stormy Daniels hush money a month before the 2016 presidential election over her alleged sexual encounter with the billionaire. Stormy, it should be noted, means "tempestuous" in Portuguese.

"Donald has been having some rough days lately. You might even say he’s been a little stormy," Biden said.

He also took aim at Trump's new business venture, which has seen him begin selling Bibles called 'God Bless the USA' which include a copy of the US constitution and cost around $60 (£56).

"Trump is so desperate, he’s started reading the Bibles he’s selling. Then he got to the first commandment: ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.’ That’s when he put the Bible down and said: ‘This book is not for me’,” the US president quipped.

The dinner took place as pro-Palestine protesters gathered outside the Washington Hilton hotel, where Biden and his guests were staying, to call for a boycott in solidarity with journalists killed in Gaza. However, the US president did not mention the issue.
