In the letter about the ephemeris, the responsible decided to address the "huge subject of general disinformation" online, and, in particular, in the area of dance, where there are also "imposters who want to make money by cheating dancers", namely "schools that do not have the classes they advertise" or "fake degrees or positions".

Established by the CID of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1982, World Dance Day, which is celebrated today, is celebrated annually to mark the birth of the dancer and ballet master Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), considered one of the pioneers of modern dance.

Still on the subject of disinformation on the Internet, which occupies the entire message for today from the president of the CID, Alkis Raftis warns of "events that have hidden fees or expenses, but do not inform you from the beginning" and "teachers who teach without having been taught".

Raftis also denounces, without giving concrete examples, "festivals that do not take place", "competitions in which all competitors win a title" and "organizations with impressive names - national, international, world - that are nothing more than private companies".

"You can't stop the scammers, but you can stop people from becoming their victims. So, stick to what you know well, and what you can verify with certainty", advises the head of the entity founded in 1973, which is part of UNESCO for the area of dance.

Annually, the CID sends a message on this date to thousands of dance professionals active in 200 countries, where the celebrations involve organizing events that go beyond the usual dance community, opening up to all audiences.

Every year, on this symbolic date for the sector, the dance department of the International Theatre Institute also invites a personality from the dance community to create a message alluding to the ephemeris.

This year, this task fell to the Argentine ballerina Marianela Nunez - former principal dancer of the Royal Ballet of London and winner of the Konex Award for best ballerina of the decade, in 2010 - who chose to write about memory, forgetting and the responsibility of evoking the masters and protagonists of the past.

"A memory is not enough to make history", she pointed out in the allusive message, published on the institute's online page, defending "the commitment to rescue and revitalize the history of masters, artists and choreographers who enriched the world of dance and deserve to be heard by future generations".

"Let us all know that we are not spectators, but heirs to a tradition forged with art, dignity and sacrifice, nourishing our path with vocation and love for beauty. If the future and the present monopolize our attention, without the solid foundation of the past, without the fertility of our land, the tree of dance cannot flourish. The roots are tradition and at the same time nutrients", she argues.

In Portugal, World Dance Day is celebrated annually from north to south of the country, on theater stages or on the street, on digital platforms, by various companies and cultural entities that organize programs with shows, workshops, visits to schools, screening of films about dance, and open dance classes.
