The Freedom Flotilla coalition has accused Guinea-Bissau of withdrawing the flag from two of its ships, yielding to pressure from Israel so that the humanitarian aid does not reach its destination.

"That is not true, that is 'fake news', Guinea-Bissau has never had ships", said the President, on the sidelines of a visit to the new medicine warehouse in Bissau.

Questioned by Lusa about the accusation from the humanitarian organisation, the head of State said he was not aware of the issue raised about the flags and denied having yielded to pressure from Israel.

"I do not usually speak to the Prime Minister of Israel, who I speak to is the President of Israel, who is a friend, whom I have known for many years. He is who I have spoken to, but about the war in the Gaza Strip", he stressed.

"Yesterday I spoke to him, we communicate a lot, which is what I do with various presidents", he added.

The President of Guinea-Bissau guaranteed that he has never spoken to his Israeli counterpart "about flagging ships", emphasising that it is a matter that "is not dealt with by the President of the Republic".

"What I can reaffirm is that sometimes people... there is 'fake news', this is 'fake news' [false news]", he reiterated.

The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Freedom Flotilla said it intends to take humanitarian aid to Gaza, specifically 5,550 tonnes of goods, in ships flagged by various countries, which will also transport international humanitarian observers.
