European Parliament strengthens ties with Belarus opposition
The President of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, stressed today the institution's "strong commitment" to supporting the democratic opposition forces in Belarus.

"This is a strong sign of Parliament's determination to strengthen our ties and show our support to the democratic forces and civil society in Belarus, in their fight for a free, independent and democratic country", Metsola said, after signing a cooperation agreement with Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
In a statement, the EP leader assured that Belarus "will not become a forgotten corner of Europe".
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is a Belarusian politician and human rights activist who became known after the 2020 presidential election as the country's main opposition candidate.
