A former Boy Scout volunteer has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for hiding cameras in a Missouri campground bathroom in the United States.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the man, identified as David Lee Nelson, 41, was also ordered to pay $60,000 (€55,700) in restitution.

The case dates back to July 2021, when Nelson placed cameras inside paper towel dispensers, positioning them to capture a shower and other areas of a bathroom at a campground in St. Louis County.

One of the cameras was found when Boy Scouts were cleaning the bathrooms. After the discovery, they searched and found another camera and decided to call the authorities.

In January, Nelson pleaded guilty to two counts of producing child pornography and two counts of attempted production of child pornography.

Part of the $60,000 restitution will be used for the victims’ counseling.
