Macron blasts Russia as ‘destabilising power’ in Europe

"Today [Russia] has resolutely decided to become a destabilising power that does not impose strategic limits on its actions," Emmanuel Macron argued in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche, as reported by the newspaper Le Figaro on Saturday.
Russia no longer has "a declared strategic objective" in Ukraine, as it did at the beginning, which was "to save the Ukrainian provinces that had declared autonomy," Macron denounced.
"It is necessary to remove all visibility from it, because that is what creates the capacity for deterrence," he argued.
"The Russian enthusiasm demonstrates that we are right not to close any doors. Otherwise, it means that we accept giving up an international order based on law and, therefore, on peace and security," added the French President.
Macron also stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue with Moscow, arguing that "it is right to leave the door open to negotiations" with the country.
Otherwise, he added, it would mean "abandoning the international order, peace and security".
