African Union condemns Israeli incursion into Rafah: 'Deadly escalation'
The President of the African Union Commission today condemned the incursion by the Israeli army in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, and called on the international community to coordinate "collective action to stop this deadly escalation".

Moussa Faki Mahamat also expressed his "extreme concern about the war being waged by Israel in Gaza, which is resulting in ongoing mass killings and the systematic destruction of the conditions for human life," in a statement posted on social network X early this morning.
The head of the Commission (which acts as the organization's secretariat), the statement also emphasizes, "strongly condemns the extension of this war to Rafah, the only corridor for humanitarian aid."
The Chadian politician then appeals "to the entire international community to effectively coordinate collective action to stop this deadly escalation."
The statement by the president of the AU Commission was posted on social network X (formerly Twitter), after the Israeli army placed tanks in Rafah on Tuesday and took control of the border crossing with Egypt.
