In Rafah, the Israeli military forces took over, in an offensive launched on May 7, the areas of the passage to Egypt and the Kerem Shalom point, to Israel, as well as another 31 square kilometers from which the population was ordered to withdraw a day before.
The Israeli planes returned to attack the areas around the Rafah border post, which remains closed, firing projectiles against the eastern neighborhoods of Al-Shuweika and Al-Jeneina, while the naval force also used machine guns against the western areas of the city of Rafah, reported the Palestinian agency Wafa.
In the Zeitun neighborhood, in the north of Gaza, at least 10 houses were bombed near the Hasan Al Banna mosque and the University of Gaza, displacing thousands of people who were taking shelter in schools.
"Dozens of people were killed following the bombings by the occupying warplanes", indicated Wafa.
The total number of deaths since the beginning of the war in Gaza, on October 7, 2023, amounts to 34,844, according to the count of the Palestinian authorities, while at least 78,404 people were injured.
In addition, thousands of bodies are still buried under the rubble and cannot be reached by rescue teams.
Israel declared war on the Hamas movement after a surprise attack on Israeli territory that left about 1,200 dead and more than 200 kidnappings.
