Parliament speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the Duma will hold a session later in the day to consider Mishustin’s reappointment.

Approval is a foregone conclusion in the Kremlin-controlled parliament, the Associated Press news agency reported.

Under Russian law, Mishustin, 58, who has held the post for the past four years, submitted his resignation on Tuesday when Putin began his fifth presidential term.

Mishustin’s reappointment had been widely expected, with observers noting that Vladimir Putin values the former head of Russia’s tax service for his competence and lack of political ambition.

Mishustin has kept a low profile, avoiding policy statements and media interviews.
