Russia takes control of six villages in eastern Ukraine
The Russian army took control of five villages in the Kharkiv region, in northeastern Ukraine, and another one in Donetsk, after a military offensive, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today.

The Defense Ministry wrote on the Telegram messaging service that Russian troops had "liberated" the Ukrainian settlements of Borisovka, Ogirtseve, Pletenivka, Pylna and Strilecha in the Kharkiv region, as well as Keramik in the Donetsk region.
The villages, located near the border between Ukraine and Russia, were taken by units of the Russian army's 'Sever' (North) group, the ministry said.
According to the Russian daily military report, Ukraine lost more than 170 servicemen in a day as a result of the offensive in the Kharkiv direction.
The sixth settlement taken over the past 24 hours was Keramik in the Donetsk region, where about 390 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in a day, according to the report.
The Ukrainian authorities have evacuated 1,775 civilians from several districts of the northeastern Kharkiv region over the past 24 hours, where Russia launched a new cross-border offensive on Friday and where fighting is still ongoing.
The evacuations were reported by Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synehubov, who said on his Telegram channel that 30 settlements in the border region came under enemy artillery fire or airstrikes over the past day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Friday an attempt by Russia to open a new front in the Kharkiv region, saying that Ukrainian forces managed to repel it "with artillery fire."
"Russia launched a wave of counteroffensive actions in that direction. Ukraine met them with troops, brigades and artillery," Zelensky said at a press conference, stressing that the Ukrainian command knew that the Russians had increased the presence of their troops in that section of the border and that they had enough forces there to repel them with fire.
