Greece files complaint against Turkey for converting church into mosque
Greece today submitted a complaint to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), after Turkish authorities decided to convert the Church of St. Savior in Istanbul into a mosque.

According to the Greek radio station Athina 9.84, the permanent representative of Greece to UNESCO, Giorgos Koumoutsakos, traveled to Paris, headquarters of the international organization, to file the complaint.
Koumoutsakos met with UNESCO's deputy director-general, Ernestos Ottone, who is responsible for cultural issues, and with officials from the Cultural Heritage Center.
In 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the conversion of the former Greek Orthodox church, which had been operating as a museum since 1945, after World War II, into a mosque.
