The French news agency (AFP) refers in the text in which it cites the information linked in Telegram, that, when contacted, the Israeli army did not immediately want to comment on the news.
In the video, the hostage was identified by the Hostage Families Forum, an association that represents some of the families of the people kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 during a concert in Israel, as Nadav Popplewell, a 51-year-old Israeli-British citizen, from Kibutz Nirim. The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said in a video that the hostage died today and attributed the death to "injuries suffered after Zionist [Israeli] fighter jets attacked the place where he was detained for over a month". Shortly before, the armed group had transmitted a first video, with about ten seconds, and without a specified recording date, in which they showed the hostage, with a swollen eye and a dejected look, articulating his name and age. The hostage was in front of a white tiled wall, in a place that seemed dark. The message from the armed wing of Hamas, which Israel considers a terrorist organization along with the United States and the European Union, is accompanied by "hashtags" written in Arabic and Hebrew, with the words: "Time is running out" and "your Government is lying". The video emerged on the 218th day of war and at a time when indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas to reach a truce in Gaza associated with the release of hostages seem to be at a standstill. The delegations of the mediating countries (Egypt, Qatar and the United States) left Cairo on Thursday without an agreement after lengthy negotiations. The war broke out on October 7, when Hamas commandos infiltrated from Gaza carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing more than 1,170 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP report based on official Israeli data. More than 250 people have been kidnapped and 128 remain captive in Gaza, of which 36 are said to have died, according to the army. In response, Israel promised to "annihilate Hamas", in power in Gaza since 2007, and release the hostages, and launched an offensive that has so far caused 34,971 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health of that Islamic movement. Other hostage videos have already been transmitted by Palestinian armed groups since the beginning of the war and have been denounced by Israel as psychological manipulation to pressure the Israeli government.
