An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter Scale was registered on Sunday morning near the coast of Chiapas, Mexico, which borders Guatemala.
The seismic event occurred at an approximate depth of 75 kilometers, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), quoted by Reuters.
Mexico's national civil protection agency reported on social media that it was monitoring the situation, but that there were no initial reports of damage.
In Guatemala, where the quake was felt in the capital, Guatemala City, the country's disaster agency, CONRED, reported structural damage in the departments of Quetzaltenango and San Marcos, near the country's border with Mexico, including a landslide that blocked part of a road.
According to the U.S. Tsunami Warning System and the Mexican Navy, there is no risk of the phenomenon.
