New Access to Gaza Opened for Humanitarian Aid
The Israeli military announced today that it was opening a new crossing point into the northern Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by seven months of war, to allow in humanitarian aid.

Today, the "Erez-West crossing in the north of the Gaza Strip was opened for the transfer of humanitarian aid", as part of "measures aimed at increasing aid routes to the Gaza Strip, particularly in the north" of the Palestinian territory, the Israeli army said in a statement quoted by Agence France Presse (AFP).
Shortly after the announcement, an AFP correspondent saw about 30 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid coming from the north and entering Gaza City, for the first time since the beginning of the Israeli army operation in the south of the Gaza Strip.
In the statement, the Israeli army said it had coordinated the transport of "dozens of trucks of flour from the [Israeli] port of Ashdod, on behalf of WFP", the United Nations World Food Programme.
On Saturday, the Israeli army carried out new bombardments in the Gaza Strip, notably in Rafah, and ordered new evacuations from this city, threatened by a major ground offensive.
Defying international warnings against a large-scale offensive, Israeli troops have been carrying out incursions in the eastern area of Rafah since Tuesday.
Israelis and Palestinians have been in conflict for decades, but this phase of the conflict broke out on October 7, when Hamas commandos infiltrated from Gaza carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing more than 1,170 people, most of them civilians, according to official Israeli figures.
In response, Israel vowed to "annihilate Hamas", which has been in power in Gaza since 2007, and launched an offensive that has already caused more than 35,000 deaths, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, controlled by the radical Islamic movement.
