In a statement, the South African municipality said this morning that 28 people are still missing, while 13 people remain hospitalized.
A total of 53 people have been rescued to date, 24 of whom are dead, according to local South African authorities.
The municipality estimated that 81 workers were on site at the time of the collapse of the five-story building in the coastal city of George last Monday, May 6.
The Garden Route District Municipality admitted that some of the families affected by the building collapse are from Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
"We are facing difficulties in identifying the missing or deceased due to the collapse of the building. We urgently request that families who have lost contact with their loved ones go to the George Civic Center on York Street," the South African municipality appealed.
"We urgently appeal for the help of psychosocial support professionals who are proficient in the Chewa, Portuguese, and Shona languages to help the survivors and their families," it added.
Search and rescue operations have been underway at the site for 163 hours since the building collapsed, South African authorities said.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown.
