"We are hours away from a collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip due to the lack of fuel needed to operate hospital generators, ambulances and staff transport," warned the health ministry in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory.

The enclave has been deprived of electricity since the start of the conflict and there has been a shortage of humanitarian aid entering the Palestinian territory.

Israelis and Palestinians have been in conflict for decades, but this phase of the conflict erupted on October 7, when the Islamist group Hamas carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, according to official Israeli figures.

In response, Israel vowed to "annihilate Hamas", which has been in power in Gaza since 2007, and launched an offensive that has already caused more than 35,000 deaths, according to the Gaza health ministry.
