"Rainfall near or above average is very likely" until September throughout the African continent, stretching from the Red Sea in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the west, according to the organisation's latest bulletin, consulted today by Lusa.
The forecasts for above-average rainfall are more pronounced for the continent, including Guinea-Bissau, and less so for Cape Verde.
In either case, however, there is only a 20% chance of rainfall being below average.
According to the regional meteorological centre Agrhymet, the forecasts require preventive measures against the risk of flooding or flash floods, as well as adequate preparation of water reserves, in order to obtain maximum benefit.
Early contact with agricultural support services is also recommended for crop preparation.
