A man was arrested in Sant Antoni, Ibiza, Spain, after pretending to have been the victim of a robbery in order to report it to his insurance company.
According to a statement issued by the Guardia Civil on Monday, cited by the Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, the case dates back to last week, when a man appeared at the municipal police station.
The man reported an assault that he had been the victim of that same day, at dawn, stating that two strangers had surprised him in the street and, after threatening him, had stolen his watch and wallet with 70 euros.
Once the investigation began, the guards verified that what the suspect had said did not correspond to reality, and he was summoned for questioning.
After being confronted by the authorities, the man admitted that what he had reported was a lie and that his intention was to report the robbery to the insurance company, although he had not yet had time to do so.
For this reason, the man was arrested and spent the night in the facilities for the crime of simulating a crime until he was brought before a judge.
