Umaro Sissoco Embaló stated that, from now on, when he travels, his luggage will "go through a filter" for security reasons and that, from now on, no one will be exempt from being searched at border posts, especially at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport.

"From now on it is a law, while I am President of the Republic, even if you have a diplomatic passport (...), your luggage will go through the 'scanner', it will be searched", said the Guinean President.

Umaro Sissoco Embaló was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 14th anniversary celebrations of the National Guard.

Embaló took the opportunity to give a set of guidelines to the Minister of the Interior and Internal Order, Botche Candé, to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Biague Na Ntan, to combat drug trafficking in the country.

"From now on, on all flights departing from Bissau to Europe, I want strict control. On the day that drugs are seized in Portugal and that have left Bissau, all agents on duty at the airport will be arrested", declared the Guinean President.

For Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Guinea-Bissau "cannot be a pariah state" in which a deputy prosecutor or a member of parliament are caught with drugs abroad.

The Guinean President was referring to prosecutor Eduardo Mancanha, arrested by the police at Lisbon airport on 21 April, with 200 grams of hashish, when he was preparing to travel to Bissau, and to the deputy, Manuel Irenio Lopes "Manelinho", also arrested in the Portuguese capital with 13 kilograms of cocaine.

The deputy was also surprised by the Portuguese police at Lisbon airport when he arrived from Bissau.

"This is the country we want to build", questioned Embalo, inviting the "marginals" to move away from state functions, because, he said, they damage the image of Guinea-Bissau.
