"The efforts of the Royal Security Sector, represented by the General Anti-Drugs Directorate, have resulted in the arrest of a citizen from the ruling family who cultivates marijuana in his house," the Arab country's Interior Ministry said in a statement, adding that three other people of Asian nationality were arrested in the operation.

The department indicated that the authorities seized 270 plants of "various sizes" and also 5.2 kilos of marijuana "ready to be consumed", 50 grams of hashish, 27 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms and ten bottles of alcohol.

According to the note, 4,150 tablets of the synthetic stimulant "Fenethylline" were also seized, and 620 marijuana cigarettes.

The statement did not identify the detainee or provide details of his position in Kuwait's powerful royal family, but noted that "no one is above the law".

The prosecution is expected to begin investigations, while the search for other possible suspects in drug trafficking continues, the text continues. The ministry also released images of the police operation on social media.

This operation takes place at a particularly unstable time in the country, after Emir Mishal al Ahmad al Sabah announced on Friday the dissolution of parliament and the suspension of several clauses of the Constitution "for a period exceeding four years", a measure justified to protect "the higher interests of Kuwait".
