"The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the death of a United Nations Department of Safety and Security staff member and the injury of another staff member from the same department when their clearly marked UN vehicle was hit as they were traveling to the European Hospital in Rafah this morning,” said Guterres’ Deputy Spokesman, Farhan Haq.

António Guterres condemned all attacks against UN personnel and called for a “full investigation,” while sending his condolences to the family of the staff member killed in today’s attack.
“As the conflict in Gaza continues to take a heavy toll – not only on civilians, but also on humanitarian workers – the Secretary-General reiterates his urgent call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for the release of all those being held,” added Haq.
Israeli authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
According to the Gaza government, run by the Islamist group Hamas, the Israeli army attacked a vehicle clearly marked with UN insignia and flags.
“The Israeli occupation army killed a foreign worker and wounded another foreign worker in the southern Gaza Strip province of Rafah, after targeting them while they were in a United Nations vehicle carrying the organization’s flag and logo,” the Gaza government’s press office said on Telegram.
Farhan Haq confirmed that the vehicle that was hit was clearly marked as a UN vehicle.
