"We discussed different ways to increase our bilateral cooperation. Minister Djuric expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and I did the same with regard to Serbia. We touched upon the European integration of the two countries," Kuleba said in a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

The Ukrainian diplomacy chief also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

The Serbian president, in turn, described the meeting as "very good and positive".

"We discussed and agreed to improve bilateral relations, emphasizing the intention to organize an economic forum in the near future, in which businessmen from both countries will participate," Vucic said.

He also stressed that the Serbian ambassador to Ukraine will return to his duties in Kiev as soon as possible, and conveyed to Kuleba the problems that Serbia is currently facing, especially at the international level.

In turn, Vucevic argued that Serbia "is committed to international law and to the territorial integrity of all UN member states, including Ukraine".

The two government officials also discussed the political and security situation in the world and the possibilities of cooperation between countries, given the current conditions.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, with the argument of protecting pro-Russian separatist minorities in the east and "denazifying" the neighboring country, independent since 1991, after the collapse of the former Soviet Union, and which has been moving away from Moscow's sphere of influence and approaching Europe and the West.

The war in Ukraine has already caused tens of thousands of deaths on both sides, and the two belligerents remain steadfast in their territorial positions and without openness to negotiating concessions.

Recent months have been marked by large-scale Russian airstrikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, while Kiev forces have targeted targets in Russian territory near the border and in the Crimean peninsula, illegally annexed in 2014.

Now in its third year of war, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been facing a shortage of soldiers, weapons and ammunition, despite repeated promises of aid from Western allies.
