"The main country that is enabling Russia's aggression against Ukraine is China. [Beijing] is by far Russia's biggest trading partner," Jens Stoltenberg said at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters in Brussels.
Speaking by videoconference at a NATO youth summit in Stockholm, Sweden, and Miami, the secretary general said that Beijing is "providing the critical components" that Moscow needs for "its advanced technology."
These components are used to "build missiles, drones and a whole range of things that are essential for the war against Ukraine," Stoltenberg added.
The secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance also pointed the finger at Tehran and Pyongyang for supplying drones and ammunition, calling the three countries the Kremlin's "friends" in Asia: "They are key to Russia's [military] capability."
"China is involved in everything, in cyberspace, in Africa, trying to control critical infrastructure in our countries," he accused, demanding that Beijing change course to contribute to peace.
On his way to the Washington summit, which marks the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Jens Stoltenberg recalled that it is necessary to invest more in defense at a time of profound geopolitical changes.
