The dismissal of Yuri Galushkin was confirmed today by the Ukrainian Army's Khortsia operational strategic group, which did not specify the reasons for the decision.

Galushkin was replaced by his "number two", Mikailo Drapati.

Ukrainian military analyst Yuri Butusov indicated today on social networks during a visit to the town of Vovchansk -- located in the Kharkiv border area and one of the main objectives of the Russian offensive in the area -- that the situation has improved for Ukraine in the last two days, after the replacement of Galushkin.

Butusov and other Ukrainian analysts had warned that appropriate defenses had not been built in the area where the Russian attack is concentrated.

The Vovchansk military administration indicated that the fortifications built in the area were less dense than those erected on other front lines due to the continuous artillery attacks by Russian forces in this border area, which prevented a more adequate defense.

The Russian military offensive in Ukrainian territory, unleashed on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

Ukraine's Western allies have been providing weapons to Kiev and approving successive packages of sanctions against Russian interests in an attempt to diminish Moscow's ability to finance the war effort.

Recent months have been marked by large-scale Russian air strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, while Kiev's forces have targeted Russian territory near the border and the Crimean peninsula, illegally annexed in 2014.

Now in its third year of war, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been facing a shortage of weapons and ammunition, despite repeated promises of aid from Western allies.
