"We are talking about funding in the order of two billion dollars. This is the first cooperation that will take place between São Tomé and the Peacebuilding Commission and Fund, and we will now monitor all of this", announced Sérgio França Danese, after a meeting with the Prime Minister of São Tomé, Patrice Trovoada.

According to the three-day visit program, the permanent representative of Brazil to the UN, Sérgio França Danese, heads a high-level delegation from the United Nations that is in São Tomé with the objective of interacting with all the institutions that contribute to the justice and security system and civil society, as well as involving all holders of political power, through meetings, gatherings and consultations, to have a complete view of the major challenges and solutions for reforming justice and security in the archipelago.

"This mission is the continuation of a contact that the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe took the initiative to make with the Peacebuilding Commission, which is a United Nations body that aims to help countries that voluntarily seek to resolve issues that they consider important for sustainability, their development and their security", stressed Sérgio Danese.

The delegation intends to follow up on the financial and technical request made by the Prime Minister of São Tomé at a meeting held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on January 15 of this year.

According to the Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Human Rights of São Tomé and Príncipe, the funding will be used to achieve various results, including the consolidation of a single vision in the Justice reform process, integrating all the actors, "so that the reform has the desired effect, which is to strengthen the Justice institutions, in order to consolidate the democratic process, consolidate peace and for citizens to feel that they have a response from the system".

"The second objective is to act to strengthen the institutions, particularly the Judicial Police, the police at the national level, strengthen the means of prevention and transform our police forces into peacekeeping forces", added Ilza Amado Vaz in statements to Lusa.

Another objective is to "strengthen the capacities of the courts in various aspects, so that they have sufficient means and capacity to resolve conflicts", with the third result being the involvement of civil society and other partners in the creation of the National Human Rights Commission, which "will be the Government's partner in improving justice conditions, but also in preserving human rights in the country".

On Tuesday morning, the delegation will hold a consultation meeting with the heads of various Justice, Defense and Security institutions, followed by a visit to some of the institutions.

In the afternoon, a round table of partners and donors will be held, with the presence of the Prime Minister of São Tomé, Patrice Trovoada.

On Wednesday, the meeting with civil society is scheduled, a high-level meeting with the presence of the Prime Minister of São Tomé and the signing of the financial support to support the justice and security reform in São Tomé and Príncipe.
