The French public prosecutor's office requested, this Monday, a fine of 400,000 euros against the French public-private railway company (SNCF) in the case of the TGV accident that killed 11 people and injured 42 in Alsace, on November 14, 2015.

The Public Prosecutor's Office requested a fine of 200,000 euros, multiplied by two “due to the state of legal recidivism”, that is, 400,000 euros, against SNCF and a fine of 150,000 euros, also multiplied by two due to the state of legal recidivism, that is, 300,000 euros, against the company SNCF-Réseau. Systra, the engineering company responsible for the tests, was fined 225,000 euros.

According to Le Parisien, the Public Prosecutor's Office also requested a one-year suspended prison sentence for Denis T., the train driver, and a two-year suspended prison sentence for Francis L., the manager responsible for giving him braking and acceleration instructions. However, the magistrate excluded any “criminal liability” of Philippe B., the Systra technician - the company responsible for carrying out the tests - in charge of informing the driver about the particularities of the track.

It should be recalled that the French high-speed train derailed in 2015 while undergoing tests. Eleven people died and 42 were injured, including four minors who should not have been on the TGV, as well as other “guests”.

The TGV was carrying out tests on the new high-speed line in the north of Strasbourg and, therefore, should only have been carrying French Railways technicians.
