According to a statement from the Amaq agency, the propaganda organ of the IS, the 'jihadists' carried out an attack with automatic weapons last night in a village located in the province of Saladino, in central Iraq.

The attack began with shots against the barracks "which caused deaths and injuries to several soldiers", according to military sources cited by Amaq. Reinforcement military patrols that arrived in the meantime were also attacked.

The group said that there were five fatalities, including a colonel, in addition to five wounded, which was confirmed to the EFE agency by General Abas Mohamed, from the command of the Saladino operations.

The dead colonel was identified as Jaled Al Elwany, commander of an army regiment.

The IS was territorially defeated in Iraq in 2017, after controlling large areas of the country since 2014, but it continues to perpetrate attacks, mainly against the Iraqi security forces.
