Firefighters rescued, on Tuesday, a mare that had been on the 3rd floor of a building in São Leopoldo, in Vale do Sinos, Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil for ten days.

According to the G1 website, the São Leopoldo Fire Department was called after an alert that a horse was trapped on the third floor of a residential condominium building.

The rescue operation lasted seven hours and involved about 15 people. The animal was lifted and removed through a window.

The firefighters explained that the condominium is empty due to the floods that are affecting the Brazilian state. However, it is not known how the animal got to the apartment.

The mare had been in that place for ten days and, initially, it was believed to be a horse. It was only during the rescue that the veterinarians confirmed that it was a female.

"Probably, in a way of reaching a safe place, the animal must have climbed the stairs of the building, as the water was advancing, and got stuck in some way in that apartment", explained Captain Gularte, of the Fire Department, quoted by G1.

The case resembles the rescue of the horse Caramelo, which moved Brazil, after it had been on the roof of a flooded house for about 100 hours.

It should be noted that the heavy rains and floods that have been affecting Rio Grande do Sul since the end of April have already killed at least 149 people. There are still 112 missing and 806 injured, according to the latest report.
