The attack on a prison van in France on Tuesday resulted in two dead and three injured guards, two of whom are in serious condition.

The attack aimed to free inmate Mohamed Amara, who was being transported in the van. The mission was successful, but left a trail of victims.

And if until now much has been said about the identity of France's most wanted man, it remains to be seen who the two guards who were victims of this tragedy are.

Who are the fatal victims of the attack in France?

Fabrice Moello, 52, and Arnaud Garcia, 35, are the two agents killed in the ambush in Eure.

The two men are from Caen and were both shot dead during the attack on the van where they were following their professional duties.

Fabrice Moello, 52, was married and the father of two children, aged 21. Arnaud Garcia, 35, was an only child and was preparing to become a father for the first time soon. According to his father, a former member of the French security forces, his daughter-in-law, who is five months pregnant, is "devastated" by the loss of her husband.

The two men were responsible for escorting Mohammed Amra back to prison after he appeared at a court hearing in Rouen.

According to the French Justice Minister, the two men were "shot down like dogs". Four men dressed in black surrounded the van at an Incarville tollbooth in the Eure region and fired about 30 shots at the guards.

The aim was to free the inmate, known as 'La Mouche', the ringleader of a drug trafficking network.
