A morbidly obese monkey died at the Crystal Pet Hospital on May 6 due to its excessive weight, after becoming a tourist attraction at a market in Bangkok, Thailand.
The animal - which went viral for wearing tight crop tops - had previously been placed in a fat camp where it was put on a strict diet, Excelsior reports. However, efforts to reduce its weight were unsuccessful and the primate continued to be fed ‘junk food’ - such as chocolate, sweets and hamburgers - by tourists, leading to its tragic end.
The animal, which suffered from several weight-related illnesses, died while holding its owner’s hand. Its remains will be cremated and given to its owners.
