The accident took place on one of the capital's main roads, on the section linking the commune of Nsele to that of Ndjili, on the outskirts (east) of the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), Papy Musey, the provincial minister of the Interior of Kinshasa, told AFP.

According to initial information, the accident occurred not far from the airport entrance when "a trailer collided with a 207 bus", a yellow passenger transport vehicle often referred to in Kinshasa as a "spirit of death".

Musey added that the exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been determined.

Road accidents are frequent in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to disregard for regulations, with obsolete vehicles that are rarely subjected to technical inspections, roads that are often in poor condition or poorly trained drivers who drive drunk or at excessive speed.
