Spain has denied a request for permission to dock a merchant ship carrying weapons bound for Israel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will reject requests “to dock on Spanish territory for any ship with a weapons shipment bound for Israel”, a diplomatic source assured the EFE agency.

The same source reported that “there is already one case that has been denied”, although the source did not provide the name of the ship in question, nor its flag.

The case arose after the Sumar party asked the State Attorney General's Office to prevent the cargo ship ‘Borkum’ from docking in Cartagena, considering that its destination is Israel, as pro-Palestinian associations denounce, despite the Executive denying this, stating that it is bound for the Czech Republic.

The Podemos party has already filed a complaint to stop the ship upon its arrival at the port of Cartagena, in order to verify whether it is carrying weapons for Israel.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has asked the judge of the National Court Ismael Moreno to reject the complaint.

The war, which today entered its 223rd day and continues to threaten to spread to the entire Middle East region, has so far caused at least 35,272 deaths, more than 79,000 injuries and around 10,000 missing people presumably buried in the rubble, in the Gaza Strip, according to updated figures from local authorities.

The conflict has also caused almost two million displaced people, plunging the overcrowded and impoverished Palestinian enclave into a serious humanitarian crisis, with more than 1.1 million people in a "catastrophic hunger situation" which is causing "the highest number ever recorded" of victims by the United Nations.
