An Atlanta, Georgia, police officer fatally shot a Lyft driver Wednesday after allegedly believing he was being kidnapped. Koby Minor, 34, told authorities he called a Lyft while leaving another officer’s home. As they drove, Reginald Folks, 35, began speaking on his phone in a language Minor didn’t understand, so he asked the driver to pull over. When he tried to get out at a red light, he realized the doors were locked, the Associated Press reported. Minor, who allegedly told a bystander that Folks was part of a “gay fraternity and was trying to recruit him” and kidnap him, said he didn’t know if the man was gay. However, he admitted to shooting him three times after the driver reached into the back seat and broke a window to get out of the car. The officer was on unpaid leave after being arrested on drug charges Christmas Day last year. He had been with the Atlanta Police Department since 2018 and submitted his resignation Wednesday.
