Kim Yo-Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has denied that her country has supplied arms to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine.
"The most absurd theory." That's how Kim Yo Jong described the alleged arms deal between North Korea and Russia, saying it was "a fake rumor" that "is not worth any comment or interpretation," according to KCNA, citing her statement to the press.
The North Korean leader's sister added that the weapons North Korea is developing are not for export, but rather to defend the country against South Korea.
The United States and South Korea have accused North Korea of providing Russia with weapons for use in Ukraine, but both Moscow and Pyongyang have denied the allegations, although they pledged to expand military relations last year, Reuters reported.
Ties between North Korea and Russia have grown stronger since Jong-un visited Russia in September and held a summit with President Vladimir Putin.
On Thursday, the United States announced new sanctions against two individuals and three Russian companies for facilitating arms transfers between Russia and North Korea, including ballistic missiles for use in the invasion of Ukraine.
