Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reacted this Friday to the attempted murder of his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, this week.
"We are praying for the Prime Minister and rooting for Slovakia. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to work. Robert Fico is between life and death", Orbán told Hungarian public radio.
For Orbán, the situation is aggravated by the proximity of the European Parliament elections, which will take place on 9 June. "We are facing an election that will decide not only on the members of the European Parliament, but which, together with the elections in the US, can determine the course of war and peace in Europe. In this situation, we would very much need Robert Fico and a pro-peace Slovakia", he added.
The Slovak Prime Minister was shot on Wednesday, 15 May, as he left a meeting of the Slovak Executive in the city of Handlova.
According to the country's president, although Fico is in serious condition, his condition is considered stable and he is already able to communicate.
