Eleven people were detained by the Judiciary Police (PJ) in Madeira and Lisbon on suspicion of being associated with an organized crime group that acquired, transported, and sold drugs destined for the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores.
In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto this Friday, the PJ reveals that among the detained suspects are six men and five women, aged between 23 and 56.
The PJ operation took place in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, in Madeira, and in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, in collaboration with the PSP and GNR.
The authorities carried out a total of 16 searches that led to the seizure of tens of thousands of euros in cash, as well as other relevant evidence.
Previously, during the investigation, which began in 2023, significant quantities of heroin and MDMA had already been seized on different occasions, and two people had been arrested, who are in preventive detention.
According to the PJ, which takes this opportunity to thank the "permanent availability of the Portuguese Air Force" in transporting the defendants and evidence, the detainees are already being presented to the judicial authorities for the application of coercive measures.
