A daycare owner and three of her employees have been arrested after it was discovered they had been putting melatonin in the children’s food.
The investigation into the Manchester, New Hampshire, daycare began last November after the facility was accused of “unsafe practices.”
“During the course of the investigation, police determined the children’s food was being supplemented with melatonin without the parents’ knowledge,” authorities said, according to ABC.
Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate sleep.
Those arrested were the facility’s owner, Sally Dreckmann, 52, and employees Traci Innie, 51, Kaitlin Filardo and Jessica Foster, both 23.
It is not yet known how long the teachers had been lacing the children’s food with the drug, or how much they were giving them.
Police also have not said how the practice was initially reported.
