The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that they had recovered the bodies of three Israeli hostages in Gaza, including Shani Louk, the young Israeli-German woman who was filmed semi-naked and unconscious in a vehicle with members of the Islamist group Hamas on the day of an attack on a music festival.
In addition to Louk, 22, the bodies of Amit Buskila, 28, and Itzik Gelernter, 58, were also recovered during an operation in Rafah.

"Shani Louk, Amit Buskila and Yitzhak Gelernter were kidnapped and murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7 from the Nova Music Festival. Overnight, our troops recovered their bodies and brought them back home to Israel," the IDF announced on social media, pledging to continue "operating to bring all of our hostages home."

A video showing Louk semi-naked and unconscious being paraded in an open-backed truck with Hamas militants went viral on the day of the attack on Israel. It was initially assumed that the young woman, who was recognizable by her hair and tattoos, had died, but it later emerged that she was badly injured in a hospital in Gaza.

However, on October 30 her family said they had been informed that she had died. "Unfortunately, we received the news yesterday that my daughter is no longer alive," Shani's mother, Ricarda Louk, told German broadcaster RTL.

The Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 35,000 people and injured nearly 80,000 in seven months, according to figures from the enclave's health ministry, which has been controlled by Hamas since 2007.

The current conflict was triggered by an unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed some 1,200 people and took around 200 hostages, according to the Israeli authorities.
