The media in question are Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta, which are accused of being under the control of the Kremlin.
In a statement, the Council of the European Union accused the media in question of targeting "European political parties, particularly during electoral periods".
Last month, Belgium opened an investigation into suspected Russian interference in the European elections in June, saying that the country's intelligence services had confirmed the existence of a network seeking to undermine support for Ukraine.
The Czech government, for its part, had imposed sanctions on several individuals after a pro-Russian influence operation was uncovered.
Since the war caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, the EU had already suspended Russia Today and Sputnik among other media.
