Egypt removes 'legend' Mohamed Aboutrika from terror list

An Egyptian appeals court on Tuesday removed former soccer player Mohamed Aboutrika and more than 1,500 others from a terrorism list that linked them to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

In a statement, this judicial body detailed that, in addition to being removed from this list, he is also no longer prohibited from traveling or having his assets seized.

In 2017, the Cairo criminal court classified Aboutrika as a "terrorist", for allegedly financing the Muslim Brotherhood, a group that has been illegalized in Egypt and considered terrorist since 2013.

International on 102 occasions, and twice African champion, in 2006 and 2008, the former attacking midfielder currently resides in Qatar, where he works as a television commentator.
