Anne Jones is 82 years old, but her advancing years didn't stop her from completing an incredible feat. The Lewisham, south London native, cycled 12 miles up Mont Ventoux in France to raise money for the people of Gaza.

The pensioner battled hail, rain and fog as she pedaled for six hours to reach the summit of the mountain, which is 1,910 metres above sea level. According to the BBC, Jones raised £13,000 (over €15,000).

Anne, who has six grandchildren, said she was "thrilled" with the experience. "There are so many people who get to 65 and think their age means they can't do things, but my message is you can," she said.

The grandmother-of-six said she felt she had a "responsibility" to do the challenge for the people of Palestine. "There have been so many donations. It's been absolutely amazing and that was another spur because I didn't want to let people down," she added.

Anne will now continue her voluntary work in Calais, France, where she teaches English and helps refugees with sewing and clothing repairs.

The war in Gaza began on 7 July after Hamas militants attacked Israel. According to the latest figures released by the Hamas-run health ministry, 35,386 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement.
