Flooding has killed 66 people in the northern Afghan province of Faryab, a spokesman for the provincial governor said Sunday, as the country grapples with a series of torrential downpours, AFP reported.

"Heavy rains that started Saturday night in several districts have killed 66 people in Faryab," said Asmatullah Muradi.

The western province of Ghor has also been badly hit by the rains, with 55 people killed, while in the northern province of Baghlan, the worst-hit area, at least 300 people have died.
